A Familiar Voice (In a Foreign Tongue)

A towering labyrinth of text that aims to distance the viewer from the comfort of the English language while searching for familiar words or letterforms. Inspired by Chinatown signage, Kufic script, barcodes, and the architecture of modern metropoles. Exhibited at The Center for Visual Communication during the New World School of the Arts Bachelor of Fine Arts Showcase 2015. Credit - Artist Kelvin Kottke. This work is very similar to the Lengua(ge) Project's own Future Alphabet, which attempts to aggregate the world's top writing systems into one global visual language.

The piece reads vertically, from left to right, as follows:

A familiar voice in a foreign tongue
Drowning in silence, victim of culture
Betrayed by distance and time
A loss of words is a loss of self...
